Why the lake end of the drive
About 45 minutes by car to the west entrance at West Glacier. That makes a day in the park comfortable without staying inside it, where lodging is far more limited and books out much earlier.
Lakeside is on the west shore, which is the side the park is on. The same base is 20 minutes from skiing at Blacktail Mountain, 35 from Whitefish Mountain Resort and 35 from the airport, so a week here does not have to be a week of driving one road.
